Blog Following - Recording in the Classroom

This week we are looking at Erin's blog on recording tips for the classroom. With JCPS pushing for the new digital backpacks, being able to record in the classroom is becoming more and more important. This can be difficult when your classroom holds 24-30 (noisy) students at a time!

Here are a few tips Erin gives for recording successfully!
#1 Set a Designated Recording Spot

#2  Use a Tent, Box, File Folder, or Partition to Separate Students
Here is a picture of how I do this in my own classroom

#3 Check that the Mic is On/Allowed
I have run into this several times with my own students using different apps. It is a quick fix and something you can train a student to do but making sure the mic is already enabled can help you avoid interruptions.

#4 Display Recording Tips
She has some premade posters in her TPT store linked here.

#5 Have Students Write a Brief Script or Notes
This helps to avoid students taking an unnecessary amount of time using devices, especially if they have to be shared.

#6 Show Students How to Delete Unused Recordings
This keeps students from having to go back and search through videos when they need to post or insert it into their work.

#7 Set a Specific Amount of Do-Overs Allowed
We all have those students who are perfectionists, or those who are just trying to waste time! This keeps recording time limited in order to make sure everyone can have a turn.

#8 Have a Recording Window When Recording is Allowed
This helps all students to know when they need to be respectful of the noise levels in the classroom so that their classmates can produce their best work!

  1. I found this summary informational, I am constantly trying to have to find ways to rotate students into the hallway or side rooms of the library when they need to record! These tips are effective and I might try the tent/box/file folder/partition in my own classroom so students do not feel like everyone is watching them.
    Thanks for sharing!

    1. The boxes have been really great for my shy kids! They are way more confident when they feel like no one is watching them.
